While a 1:2 ratio may still feel more subjectively relaxing or psychologically grounding for some individuals, from a strictly mathematical standpoint, pace dictates HRV, not ratio. So, slow breathing, especially around 5–6 breaths per minute, has the clearest effects on autonomic and cardiovascular regulation.

Zaccaro et al., 2018 — systematic review of cardiorespiratory and central nervous system effects
This review found that breathing below 10 breaths per minute—and particularly near 6 breaths per minute—was associated with increased HRV and respiratory sinus arrhythmia, along with changes in brain activity and reported relaxation. Only 15 studies met the strict criteria, so the neurological findings remain preliminary.
