Getting Out of the Box: Cultivating Creativity

Category: ,

Are you someone who thrives on routine, or do you prefer variety and spontaneity?
I’ll be honest—I love my routines. I follow the same rhythm every day as much as I can, and for good reason. When I know what comes next, I use less energy making decisions. It creates a sense of ease and stability.

It’s the same with my yoga practice. I enjoy moving through familiar sequences, where my body knows what to do, and my mind can quiet down. That’s when I enter a flow state—moving and breathing as one, like a meditation in motion. This steady approach is reflected in how I teach, too. I gravitate toward structured, simple classes that students can easily repeat at home.

And while routine can be grounding, I also understand that doing the same thing over and over can start to feel… well, stale. Sometimes we need to shake things up—to step outside the box and welcome in something new.

So, for the month of June, that’s exactly our theme: Get Out of the Box.

Just like we kick off our socks and go barefoot in the summertime, you’re invited to step out of your shell and explore new ways of being. This is a chance to expand beyond your usual patterns, spark creativity, and awaken hidden potential—on the mat and in daily life.Write or paste a paragraph

On the Mat

Try something fresh in your yoga practice:

  • Experiment with a new pose or variation
  • Explore a different style of yoga (Yin, Vinyasa, Hatha, etc.)
  • Learn a new breathing technique
  • Try a different approach to meditation—maybe walking or sound-based

Off the Mat

Bring creativity into your everyday life:

  • Plan a spontaneous day trip or vacation
  • Read a book from a genre you’ve never explored
  • Try a new cuisine or dine at a restaurant you’ve never visited
  • Sign up for a class, hobby, or activity that’s outside your norm

There are endless ways to break out of the box, and each one holds the potential to bring new energy and insight into your life. Even the smallest change can help us see the world differently and live more fully.

Creativity is born in moments of deep listening and self-trust!

So this month, I invite you to pause, tune in, and follow that spark—wherever it leads.
