Finding Your Rhythm

September has arrived, but summer is still lingering🌞

The trees have not yet changed color, and vibrant flowers continue to bloom. In the evening, many of us are still enjoying the gentle warmth of the season.

At the same time, I have begun to notice different energies in my yoga classes. Some people arrive feeling low and tired. Others carry bright, active energy. Some seem steady and balanced.

Lately, I’ve noticed my own energy shifting throughout the day as I meet new people, teach new classes, or simply spend time outside. At times, I feel the energy around me influencing my own pace and rhythm. It reminds me that our personal rhythm is always changing, and that listening inward can help us find our way back to ourselves.

When Life Changes Our Rhythm

Many ordinary changes can gently pull us out of our familiar rhythm.

Children return to school. Morning and afternoon traffic becomes busier. We may find ourselves craving more grounding, earth-colored foods. Staying outside a little longer may feel nourishing in the moment, but leave us more tired the next day.

These changes are not problems to solve. They are invitations to listen more closely.

This month, I invite you to explore what it means to find and continually rediscover your rhythm.

Begin by Listening

Before starting your day, I invite you to spend a few quiet minutes noticing how your body and energy feel.

From that grounded place, choose a comfortable pace for the day. You may move slowly, steadily, or with more energy. Let your rhythm be flexible when unexpected moments pull you in another direction.

Notice your breathing when you feel settled and in tune. Then notice how it changes when you feel scattered or out of balance.

The rhythm of your breath can help carry you through movement, transitions, and the spaces between activities. Return to it often. One mindful breath can become a gentle way home.

Let the Breath Lead

On your mat, allow your breath to guide your movement.

Try moving with the breath through Cat and Cow. Explore the gentle rhythm of shifting between Low Lunge and Half Split. And let Sun Salutations create a steady flow that carries you into the rest of your practice.

There is no need to force a particular pace. Listen for the rhythm that feels supportive today.

As you move, remember to pause occasionally and savor the quiet after each action, feeling the lingering warmth, the subtle pulse of energy, or the feeling of being present in your body.

Let that awareness set the tone for your next movement, your next breath, and your next step.

May you find a rhythm that grounds you, supports you, and invites a little more peace and ease into everyday life.
